• re: Diet Study at Redcliffe / April 8, 2006.

Hi John & Jill,

We have just arrived home after our first diet study meeting. It seemed to go quite well. We got everyone to tell us how they were going with all saying that they noticed increased energy levels, some losing weight and some diabetics with lower blood sugar levels. Pretty amazing after just one or two weeks. There were some issues with people not being able to take the apple cider vinegar and the coconut oil, but we will discuss with you at the weekend.

Regards,

Mark & Anne

Mr. Ron Sandland,

The A/ Chief Executive

C.S.I.R.O.

I spoke to you when you appeared on the Sandy Mc Cutcheon program, Australia Talks Back. I explained that the CSIRO in the past enjoyed great respect because of the quality of its work and its independence. I used the CSIRO Diet as an example of poor science because of the lack of independence. I emphasized one of its many flaws by pointing out that it fails to show the difference between healthy grass-fed beef and dangerous lot-fed beef that possibly lead to cancers.

When Sandy indicated that I was off-topic I pointed to recent Russian research in which one group of rat mothers were fed natural soy and another group the Monsanto G.M. Roundup ready soy. That the latter lost half their pups should be of concern to anyone consuming processed food as G.M. soy has even been found i n health foods. My point was that the CSIRO should be involved in research like this Russian research that protects the public. I was pleased to hear on an ABC news report that the CSIRO is dropping its research into a GM pea because they found that the mice that ate it got sick. Once again, nature knows best.

Returning to the CSIRO diet. It has many flaws, including its recommendation to eat hydrogenated vegetable oils (margarine) instead of natural butter, and its inclusion of the dangerous aspartame. You defended this accusation by pointing out that you had sold many books. This would surely be more a function of the distortion in salaries. I read that your media manager receives the massive annual salary of $330,000 while the real workers, the senior scientists receive a paltry $67,000. If this is the case something has gone wrong with CSIRO's values.

The diet has multifaceted flaws but none is contributing to disease and obesity more than its misinformation on fats. Your scientists share with the health community the mistaken belief that natural saturated fats are bad. I dropped out of formal nutrition studies (I am a retired Naval Commander and a qualified educator) to study overseas and do my own research because of lecturers who simply pointed to text books for justification. Central to the confusion i s the belief that carbs are necessary and desirable for energy. I asked lecturers, M.D's and supposed nutritional experts how is it so if the Inuit people live healthy lives in a hostile environment that would demand high energy levels just to stay warm.

The answer is that they get by nicely on protein and copious quantities of fat For a thorough understanding of fats go to www.westonaprice.org/know your fats/index.html and read Mary Enig's Fats and Oils and Their Impact on Health and then read her The Importance of Saturated Fat for Biological Function. And most importantly The Great Con-ola since your diet promotes canola foods. Mary Enig is a world renowned lipid scientist whose work will advance your nutrition groups' knowledge by at least 50 years. The demonizing of Saturated Fat began by the vegetable oil industry misquoting the Framingham Study. Quite recently the director of the study said:

In Framingham, Mass, the more saturated fat one ate, the more cholesterol one ate, the more calories one ate, the lower the person's cholesterol..We found that the people who ate the most cholesterol, ate the most saturated fat, ate the most calories, weighed the least and were the most physically active.

So the study showed that you can eat cholesterol and saturated fat and still be one of the light weights who are more active. The additional point about high calories flies in the face of "expert" advice. A high fat diet will be high calorie because fat is the most energy dense of the macro-nutrients. We feel this one fact underlines just how wrong the food fascists are.

I suggest you also consult the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, September 2004 which posed the question: " Should the steps to reduce the amount of saturated fats be put on hold until evidence clearly shows which amounts and types of saturated fats are optimal?"

Still not satisfied? Go to Allergy 2001 which reported that Finnish researchers found that saturated fats reduced allergies and trans-fats increased allergies.

It is probable that diets like yours are a major contributor to the upturn in kidney disease because of the lack of saturated fatty acids such as myristic acid, palmitic acid and stearic acid.

A correct appreciation of nutrition is so fundamental to human health that I believe that all health professionals should be required to undergo re-certification in nutrition. We need to go back in history to what our bodies were meant to eat. Doctors would then understand that cholesterol is not the problem and focus more correctly on triglyceride levels in the blood. Statins are a great life threatening drug company fraud.

I suggest that you draw the attention of your staff to www.engelmann.com.au where we will make available sufficient information to reverse the damage done by flawed diets. I certainly agree with the fruit and vegetables, and of course meat, as long as it is grass fed, as is natural for these animals. What I object to is the processed foods that are recommended, in place of the natural product. Eating natural organic foods is simple, and it works successfully for kids with ADHD and in addressing obesity along with most diseases/symptoms that flow from obesity. It is not, however a boon for manufacturers of synthetic products such as drugs and most processed foods and so is brushed aside.

We can stop this obesity epidemic now, if we are really serious and pursue science with integrity. In our 2004 book on ADHD we warned that the keep out of the sun message was a beat-up by the chemical companies to sell neurotoxic sunscreens. The Health community fell in behind the movement. Many years later they re-discover the importance of vitamin D and sunlight. That's a legitimate role for the CSIRO.

On an optimistic note, we were amazed at the speed with which the damaged bodies of the participants in our study were able to rehabilitate. Their energy levels increased massively and their mean heart rate dropped accordingly. All this by just eating healthy natural foods, as advised in our eating plan.

I started on Jill and John's diet on 27th February, 2 months ago. I've been on many diets from starving myself, to fruit only, but none worked. And two months on this program, I've lost 7 kilo's - down from 70 kg to 63kg. I'm getting into clothes I never dreamed I would ever fit into again. I feel so much better - have a lot more energy - no more afternoon naps now. I am a diabetic, became one 3/9/04. Not too bad, but since I've been with Jill and John my reading, although not perfect has dropped on most days to a healthy 5.2 - 6.7, the highest. I went to my doctor before I started and got a full blood and urine test. Will have another test in May and I know it will show a vast improvement. I saw a diabetic nurse up from Sydney a few weeks ago. She took one look at my daily sugar readings and said no worries with you. You have it under perfect control. I try to stick to everything Jill and John say, but have gone off the rails a little. But 99% of the time I do the right thing. I would like to thank Jill and John for their help and time.

I feel privileged to be part of Jill and John's weight loss program. I'm very happy with the healthier, slimmer me. I have so much more energy. I love the taste of coconut oil. It is very palatable, it also takes away the craving for sweet things and the wanting to nibble. I would recommend this program, and coconut to anyone wishing to follow an eating plan.

Thank you kindly.

Yours sincerely,

Catherine (Bundaberg)

18 years ago I had an operation on my right jaw to remove the damaged cartilage. This was right beside my right ear. They blocked my right ear with cotton wool, so no blood would enter into the ear. After my operation, I noticed the cotton wool was full up with blood. 4 - 5 weeks later I was left with bad vertigo that went on for 18 years. I had to give up my job, tennis, and driving. Then I saw an ad in the paper looking for volunteers to do the program with coconut oil. On the 9th day of the program I had very bad vertigo, falling over and sweating badly. Then what happened? My ear cleared - it must have had something in there from my operation. Doctors couldn't find anything wrong so they never thought of anything in my ear. Well now I can't believe what happened. In 9 days on the program, after suffering for 18 years, no more vertigo. Now I'm looking forward to a new life. I also have lost 7 lbs in a few weeks.

Sincerely

Fay (Bundaberg)
