Recently the Israeli Health Ministry took advice from a committee of nutritionists, oncologists, paediatricians and other specialists. The result was a warning to avoid soy infant formula altogether. Dr Kaayla Daniel noted that there are hundreds of studies linking soy foods and soy infant formula to digestive problems, thyroid dysfunction, ADD⁄ADHD, dementia, reproductive disorders and cancer.
Since the estrogen–like plant hormones in soy can cause such adverse effects on the human body as cancer promotion and reproductive problems the Ministry advised that the consumption of soy by adults be minimal. The United Kingdom's Chief Medical Officer and the British Dietetic Association have alerted paediatricians and parents to use soy infant formula only in unusual circumstances. New Zealand's Health Ministry has advised doctors to carefully monitor the thyroids of infants on soy formula.
It has long been known in farming that soy bean products can inhibit the iodine to a point where only male offspring are born or survive pregnancy. Nothing can be healthy if the iodine levels are not right. A possible benefit of soy is said to be that it reduces blood cholesterol, but this does not correlate to a reduced risk of heart disease. Since the dangers of soy clearly out weigh the flimsy evidence of benefit, why would we want to expose ourselves, and particularly our infants, to this toxic substance.
